Tomorrow is the big day, the first 100% air mail between Toulouse and Santiago is about to happen. As a family, relive this memorable moment in the shoes of journalists who came to Montaudran to discover the work of L’Aéropostale.
A Unique Adventure to Have with Your Family
Immersed in 1930, on the eve of the first transatlantic commercial crossing, discover some aspects of the preparation of this historic flight. Accompanied by the Assistant Operations Manager of the Montaudran site, you will:
- Sort the mail as quickly as possible in the mail carriage
- try to decode and send morse messages using a telegraph
- and take part in reconstructing an iconic plane in a puzzle.
As you complete your missions, you will also discover three iconic areas
- The reconstituted office of the Head of Operations, Didier Daurat
- The 1929 mail wagon, the daily life of travelling postal workers
- La Ligne workshop, an evocation of a period workshop
During the one-hour workshop, travel to the different stops along La Ligne and take part in the excitement of this historic event using only period objects.
A little History
To become a Sorter, people had to take the “Paris 2000” test: sorting more than 500 letters using the streets of Paris in less than fifteen minutes. Quite a pace – 2000 letters per hour!
You can take a speed test in the wagon, offered by the Family Workshop.
The bags were called “courriers.” You can weigh one up and understand the physical difficulty of the job.
