On 7 March 2022 the official launch of the project to reconstruct the legendary Laté 28 aircraft took place!

Initiated by Toulouse Metropole and supported by L’Envol des Pionniers, this major project aims to rebuild an exact Laté 28 aircraft on the very site where it was built almost 100 years ago!

THE LATÉ-28, A BIT OF HISTORY

A 19-metre wingspan monoplane, commissioned in 1929, it is considered one of the first modern airliners.

Able to accommodate up to eight passengers, it is responsible for numerous exploits, smashing several speed records.

It was on board a Laté 28 that aviator Jean Mermoz first succeeded in crossing the South Atlantic with mail in 1930.

ITS CHARACTERISTICS

The students will be supported by the Laté 28 Association, which will monitor the smooth running of the project and provide all the technical expertise for the construction of the aircraft.

This project provides an exceptional educational context for transmitting yesterday’s values and know-how with an eye to today’s technologies.

It also aims to promote the technological and professional sectors. It is part of the Year of Mechanics 2021-2022 led by the French Association of Mechanics and supported by l’Education Nationale.
